Diane Gilpin leads the B9 Shipping project. She has been developing renewable energy projects with B9 since 2009. She brings long experience in managing pioneering game changing technologies and facilitating technology transfer. She was Marketing Manger on the launch team for the UK’s first cellular telephone network, Cellnet; managed Benetton Formula’s commercial activity in F1, ran the Benetton Junior Formula 3 team and managed Ford’s F1 racing programme, facilitating technology transfer from race track to road cars. She launched Citibank’s first windows based electronic dealing system ‘Horizon’ and managed Logica’s first 4 year global sponsorship programme in round-the-world yacht racing pioneering relationship based teambuilding.
Diane is a Trustee and Chair of Governors at Holy Trinity Church of England Primary Academy. She is a smallholder, horsewoman, runner and long-distance walker.
David Surplus is Chairman of B9 Shipping. He has had a lifelong connection to the sea. He has a Marine Engineering degree from Newcastle and his vacations were spent at Harland and Wolff in Belfast. He served aboard several merchant ships as an Engineer for Ropner Ship Management and went on to spend 11 years with Lloyds Register before setting up B9 Energy. It was whilst working for Lloyds as an Offshore Surveyor, responsible for the construction and commissioning of offshore oil platforms, that he undertook private studies in his spare time gaining a deep understanding of climate change, renewable energy and specifically the understanding of wind turbine technology.
